OpenAI releases GPT-4, a multimodal AI that it claims is state-of-the-art

OpenAI says that GPT-4 is 40 percent more likely to give factual responses, and 82 percent less likely to respond to requests for disallowed content.

For example, this extends to being able to check out a meme and tell you why it’s funny. OpenAI says it’s not sharing its training data in part because of competitive pressure. The company was founded as a nonprofit but became a for-profit entity in 2019, in part because of how expensive it is to train complex AI systems. OpenAI is now heavily backed by Microsoft, which is engaged in a fierce battle with Google over which tech giant will lead on generative AI technologies.

It can pass complicated exams

Image inputs are not publicly available yet, even to those eventually granted access off the waitlist, so it’s not possible to verify OpenAI’s claims. OpenAI recently announced multiple new features for ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence tools during its recent developer conference. The upcoming launch of a creator tool for chatbots, called GPTs (short for generative pretrained transformers), and a new model for ChatGPT, called GPT-4 Turbo, are two of the most important announcements from the company’s event. OpenAI also announced new embedding models, text-embedding-3-small and text-embedding-3-large, which convert content into numerical sequences, aiding in machine learning tasks like clustering and retrieval. And an updated moderation model, text-moderation-007, is part of the company’s API that “allows developers to identify potentially harmful text,” according to OpenAI.

We will likely see many more GPT-4 apps appear in the coming weeks and months.

Remember, it’s important to follow academic integrity guidelines and avoid cheating on exams. Properly preparing and studying for your exams will help you achieve long-term success and a deeper understanding of the material. Ethical concerns aside, it may be able to answer the questions correctly enough to pass (like Google can). Most certification test centers don’t allow you to bring in anything that can access ChatGPT. Without knowing what’s under the hood, it’s hard to immediately validate OpenAI’s claims that its latest tool is more accurate and less biased than before. If GPT-4 Turbo API prices drop over time, some of those hallucination issues with third parties might eventually go away. OpenAI launched GPT-4 on March 14 and says the updated version is more reliable and creative than its predecessor. We are not deprecating text-embedding-ada-002, so while we recommend the newer model, customers are welcome to continue using the previous generation model. If you’re a developer looking to use the GPT-4 API in your own apps, you’ll have to pay $0.03 per 1,000 tokens.
